A reflective note

I just hung up on a friend who doled out a promise for the umpteenth time. Needless to say she had broken her promise umpteen - 1 times to get to the count. I was just reflecting on why people do these. My myopic mind could think of only the following:

1. Humans are inherently distinct and what one holds as a virtue need not necessarily be so for the other. Culture tries to bridge this gap, but only with limited success. (I feel that attempts at reconciling the value systems of different individuals will be futile and destructive. Hence I do not subscribe to "culture").

2. We "model" our friends as "systems" which respond in particular ways to given situations - more you can predict the system and more the response to your liking, more will you like the person. When you see the system suddenly going awry or making responses that you do not like, you switch off.

3. We always think that an individual will behave in a certain way depending on his past actions, though rational reasoning always says that past is no indication of the future. It is more like guessing a stock price, isn't it? You can never get it right; in case you get it right, you know that it was your lucky day!

Nopes. I read neither. The closest I've come to Osho is hearing one of his jokes which, unfortunately is not something that "shareable"
